Trata del famoso episodio en el que se vieron mezclados Cervantes y sus hermanas y sobrina en Valladolid, cuando apareció un hombre muerto a la entrada de su casa. La obra fue presentada al Premio "Cervantes" de teatro breve en 2011 -y no lo obtuvo, cinco años antes de que se estrenara en Madrid una obra con el mismo título y argumento, aunque más larga. Por supuesto no acuso a nadie de plagio -hay una especie de nube de inspiración común por el aire-, pero sí quiero hacer constar que tampoco yo he plagiado a nadie, porque mi obra es muy anterior.
Ambientada en la España del siglo XVI, la obra recrea la historia de Olalla, una mujer judía conversa que sufre la violación de Alonso, un cristiano viejo y alcalde del pueblo. Este hecho frustra el matrimonio previsto entre Olalla y Lázaro, un indiano que predicaba una nueva era basada en la concordia y la libertad. La trama explora temas como la intolerancia, la identidad y la opresión, y refleja la división de la sociedad española de la época.

Las flores de don Juan es una de esas joyas de nuestro Siglo de Oro que aún están por descubrir. El texto está estructurado de manera tradicional, la trama es clara y sencilla; además, posee una contundente unidad interna y una incuestionable y necesaria correspondencia entre los múltiples temas que la atraviesan, lo que provoca que la acción avance apoyada de manera magistral en el binomio amor-humor.
Destaca el desarrollo psicológico de sus personajes, principalmente, el contraste entre hermanos: virtud frente a vicio, y la consecuencia de dicha oposición en el camino inverso que ambos han de recorrer ya que, no en vano, el segundo título de la obra es rico y pobre trocados.
Además, las diferencias sociales, el cuestionamiento de la nobleza del linaje, los cambios de roll, las transgresiones nobiliarias y la apertura de sus estamentos, el eterno conflicto entre el bien y el mal, dotan al texto de una gran contemporaneidad.
